Geolocated todos with the v1.6
After one week of hard work, TooDo now offers to define reminders on todos which are based on the location of the Android device location.
The geolocated feature was meant to be introduced from the very beginning of TooDo, but we wanted to first focus on the basis functions of a task manager application. Geographically-based reminders are now available are now available.
Here comes the exhaustive list of features that this version offers.
- In alpha mode, multiple geographically-based reminders can be defined on a todo: watch the video. For each location you want to set a reminder, you define a notification condition element with a central spot, the radius of the circle zone to monitor, and whether you want the reminder notification to be triggered when you enter or leave the zone. TooDo offers a map view that which displays the Android device on Google Map, as well as the circle zone. This is still in beta mode but works already reasonably well (you need to perform some operations on the Android emulator in order to make this work). Here is a bundle which contains some files and the instructions in order to mock the GPS location in TooDo
- More generally, the concept of notification condition has been introduced: this includes time-based conditions (which was already present, and which has not been shifted yet into this new concept), geographically-based conditions, and soon context-based conditions (like in the GTD approach), and tomorrow time-frame-based notifications (what days in the week, in the month, in the year, in what time frames). A smart graphical GUI should be proposed in order to mix those notification conditions and take full benefit of those features
- Time-based reminders are now set back when the Android device is rebooted (the same is true for the geographically-based reminders)
- The Toodledo synchronization bug when a task is marked as complete on TooDo's side is fixed
- Notes and notification conditions are now directly accessible from the todo list: this is far from being nice and perfect, but this brings better ergonomics
- It is now possible to define a URL related to a todo
- TooDo now now tracks the location of the Android device, in order to trigger the geo-notifications
