How how do I get the version TooDo installed on my device?
From any screen, click the "About" menu entry: the title of the poped-up dialog box contains the version.
How do you upgrade to a newer version?
From your Android device, go to the Android Market application, search for the TooDo application, and click the installation button: the Android Market will tell you that TooDo is already installed, but if a newer version than the one installed on your device is available, it will propose to upgrade. Once the new version installed, when you enter TooDo, you will be redirected to an upgrade screen: just click on the "Upgrade" button, and follow the instructions.
How do I know that a new version is available?
For the time being, there is unfortunately no fully integrated mechanism which checks automatically for new versions in TooDo, thus you need to check for yourself regularly. There are three main ways of being notified of a new version:
- in the "About" screen, click on the "Check for Update" button
- subscribe to this site "news and event" folder as a RSS flow
- on the device, go to the Android Market application, and see if a new version is available
Does a new installation preserve my data?
Yes, unless specified in the release notes, there is no reason for your data to be lost when upgrading to a new version of TooDo. However, it's always saver to have your to-dos backed-up remotely: this is the reason why this is a very good idea to create a RTM or Toodledo account, and have your to-dos synchronized.
How can I backup my data?
Note that all data (except the application settings and preferences) are stored inside the file "/sdcard/TooDo/TooDo.db" file, when the database location is on the SD card. You can chose to host the database file either on the internal memory, or on the SD card, through the "Settings" screen, "Database" section, "Database location" entry. For backing-up the data, just copy and paste the previous file.
Note that you cannot use TooDo while the SD card is currenly mounted on a computer or any device!
How do I get to the TooDo "Home" screen?
From the main screen, select the "Home" tab: there you are.
I cannot see the new tasks that I created, what should I do to display them?
TooDo offers a filtering feature on the to-dos list (but also in the categories and contexts lists). The settings of this filter is available by clicking on the left-most green arrow: this shows an additional control, which controls what tasks should be displayed:
- you can filter by category,
- by due date,
- and by task status: completed, not yet completed and overdue.
The filter is saved every time you leave TooDo.
How to hide the completed tasks?
It is possible to filter the tasks displayed on the to-dos list screen. Just click the left "green" icon in the bottom tool bar on this screen. You can click the three right-most icons.
- the first toggle-icon filters the completed tasks
- the second toggle-icon filters the uncompleted tasks
- the third toggle-icon filters the overvue tasks
When the icon is greyed, this means that the tasks with the state of the icon will be hidden. When closing TooDo, those filters are automaticaly saved.
Do I need a Pro account for synchronizing with RTM/Toodledo?
Now, for the time being, you do not need, and you are granted exactly the same features if you do not have a pro account.
Synchronization with RTM/Toodledo does not seem to work: what should I do to fix that?
We suppose that you have properly set your credentials in TooDo regarding the service that you would like to synchronize with. In order for a to-do to be synchronized, it must belong to a category that has been marked as synchronized with the service. You can indicate what categories (RTM)/folders (Toodledo) you want to be synchronized with TooDo, by pressing the service icon on the home screen: on the "General" tab, press the "Update List" button when you want to get a refresh on the categories TooDo is aware of, and check the categories you want to be synchronized with. When synchronizing (by using the "Synchronize" button, or via the "SYNCHRONIZATION" button in the shorcut screen), only the to-dos defined in TooDo belonging to the checked categories will be uploaded, and and RTM/Toodledo tasks present in those categories will be downloaded.
Plus, you have two videos at your disposal, which demonstrate the synchronization:
How to make my RTM "Inbox" be synchronized?
You have two options:
- either you mark the "Inbox" category in the RTM settings screen, and you will get an "Inbox" category in TooDo with all tasks defined in RTM "Inbox" synchronized;
- or you rename the TooDo "Unclassified" category as "Inbox" (and you also check that category as synchronized in RTM setting screen): this will make all your newly created to-dos belong to that category, and all the TooDo to-dos in that category and all RTM task in the "Inbox" will be synchronized.
How to make my Toodledo "No Folder" be synchronized?
Please, follow the steps (thank you to Diane and Michael for reporting that trick):
- first in TooDo, enter the "Unclassified" category modification screen (from the categories list screen, long-press on the category item, and on the contextual menu, hit the "Edit" entry), and check the "Create RTM/Toodledo at next synchronization". Save. Synchronize if the "Unclassified" folder does not already exist on Toodledo's side: this will create that "Unclassified" folder;
- then in Toodledo, go to the "Account Settings", then "New Task Defaults": change the settings to default to "Unclassified" instead of "No Folder": with this new setting, when creating a new task in Toodledo, it will by default be located on the "Unclassified" newly created category. You are done: at next synchronization, the Toodledo default folder "Unclassified" will be synchronized with the default TooDo category "Unclassified"
